Bungling drugs mule caught with £50k cannabis stash.. after he ran out of fuel and a police car stopped to help

A DRUGS mule was caught with a £50,000 stash of cannabis in his van.. after running out of fuel on a busy bypass.

Stephen Cummings’ luck ran out when a passing police patrol car stopped to lend a hand, before discovering the drugs haul in the back of the vehicle.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard how Cummings had forgotten to fuel up the Peugeot he was using to carry the drugs and it spluttered to a halt on the busy A737 Johnstone bypass on July 7 this year.

He put on the hazard lights on the hard shoulder while he waited for help but that attracted the attention of a passing patrol car. When officers spoke to Cummings, they smelled the strong aroma of herbal cannabis coming from the vehicle.

And when the van was searched, cops recovered eight taped blocks of the drug, each weighing close to a kilo, sealed inside a carrier bag.

In court, Cummings, 32, formerly of Oliphant Crescent, Paisley , and now of no fixed abode, admitted being concerned in the supply of the drugs.
